PACCAR Recalls Nearly 6,000 rigs
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a safety recall impacting 5,919 medium- and heavy-duty trucks manufactured by PACCAR Incorporated across its Kenworth and Peterbilt product lines for the 2027 model year.
Under recall campaign 26PACD, the power distribution center (PDC) box may experience oil contamination. This condition can lead to an electrical failure causing a loss of drive power, disruption of the Antilock Brake System (ABS), or failure of exterior lighting, windshield wipers, and windshield defogging systems.
Impacted 2027 Model Year Rigs:
- Kenworth: T280, T380, T480, T680, T880, and W990
- Peterbilt: 536, 537, 548, 567, 579, and 589
Authorized dealers will inspect PDC serial numbers and replace the distribution boxes free of charge. Interim notification letters alerting owners to the safety risk will be mailed starting September 25, with follow-up letters issued once final remedy parts become available.
For Canadian commercial fleet operators, cross-border freight carriers, and heavy-duty repair shops, the recall covers shared production models deployed across Canadian highway corridors. Fleet owners should contact local Kenworth or Peterbilt dealership networks to verify VIN status.
