Pilot and Tesla Launch First Megacharger Location
The debut of Pilot and Tesla’s first Megacharger station establishes high-power charging infrastructure along major freight corridors to support long-haul Class 8 truck electrification.
Pilot Travel Centers and Tesla have officially operationalized their first Megacharger heavy-duty truck charging site at a Pilot location in Ellabell, Georgia. The facility features six high-power stalls utilizing Tesla's V4 cabinet technology, capable of delivering up to 1.2 megawatts per stall to recharge a Class 8 electric truck to 60% capacity within 30 minutes.
For fleet operators and commercial motor carriers, integrating megawatt-level charging directly into established travel center networks addresses critical operational bottlenecks regarding range confidence and turnaround efficiency. The Ellabell installation represents the first of a planned network rollout along high-density interstate routes, with 12 additional locations currently under construction across key logistics corridors.
As North American commercial fleets face mounting pressure to meet fleet decarbonization targets, scalable megawatt charging infrastructure offers transport companies a structured pathway to adopt zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles without sacrificing long-haul asset utilization.
