Bridgestone Expands Dealer Technical Training

Bridgestone’s new Bandag technical centre provides Canadian commercial dealers and fleet operators with hands-on retread manufacturing education to drive down cost-per-kilometre operations.

Bridgestone Americas has opened a new Bandag Training Center on its Akron, Ohio campus, backed by a US$3-million capital investment. The 15,000-square-foot facility incorporates full production-scale manufacturing equipment replicating each of the ten distinct tyre-retreading stages, establishing a second specialized educational hub alongside its existing facility in Muscatine, Iowa.

For Canadian commercial tyre dealer principals, retread plant managers, and heavy-duty fleet maintenance directors, standardized technical training directly impacts casing asset management and road-service reliability. With new tyre replacement acquisition costs remaining elevated, upskilling technicians in strict retread application standards helps commercial carriers curb cost per kilometre while mitigating the risk of costly roadside casing failures.

According to Brian Douglas, vice-president of retread for North America, the Akron site will also function as an operational testing lab to validate next-generation precured treads, automated equipment, and casing inspection processes. Strengthening technical proficiency across franchise networks enables independent commercial dealers to enhance plant throughput and supply transport operators with dependable, remanufactured tyre programmes that optimize lifecycle operating budgets.
