GM Canada leads EV market
General Motors Canada has confirmed its position as the top-selling automotive group for electric vehicles in Canada through the first half of 2026. GM’s EV deliveries increased 33.4 percent year-over-year, accounting for more than one in every five electric vehicles sold nationwide.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV, Chevrolet Bolt, and Cadillac OPTIQ all secured spots among Canada's top 10 best-selling electric vehicles during the six-month period.
“Supported by a growing EV portfolio across Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac, GM remains the leader in Canadian EV sales,” stated Shane Peever, Vice President of Sales, Service and Marketing for GM Canada. “More than 65 percent of our EV buyers this year are brand-new customers to Chevrolet, GMC or Cadillac.”
First-Half 2026 Highlights:
- Chevrolet Affordability: The return of the Chevrolet Bolt LT established the lowest cash purchase entry price in Canada for an EV with over 400 km of estimated range, starting at $34,995 (inclusive of manufacturer discounts and federal VAPE/iZEV incentives). Equinox EV sales grew 12 percent year-over-year.
- Cadillac Luxury Leadership: Cadillac captured 52.6 percent of the Canadian luxury EV segment, with brand EV sales up 63.9 percent year-over-year. The Cadillac OPTIQ and LYRIQ ranked first and second overall in Canadian luxury EV sales volume.
- Charging Infrastructure: Canadian GM EV owners maintain access to over 25,000 public chargers nationwide alongside native or adapter-supported NACS access to Tesla Supercharger networks.
For Canadian auto dealers, fleet buyers, and industry analysts, the H1 2026 data illustrates the commercial traction of GM's multi-brand EV portfolio across mass-market and premium vehicle segments.
