Volkswagen Unveils ID. Tiguan to Succeed ID.4 Crossover
The global reveal of the 2027 Volkswagen ID. Tiguan signals a strategic effort to strengthen electric vehicle adoption by combining proven nameplate equity with updated battery technology.
Volkswagen has introduced the ID. Tiguan, an all-electric SUV engineered to replace the ID.4 and ID.5 crossovers. By transitioning its best-selling global nameplate into the zero-emission lineup, the automaker aims to streamline consumer brand recognition and improve competitive positioning within the high-volume compact SUV segment.
Built on the updated MEB+ platform, the ID. Tiguan will be available in three powertrain configurations. Rear-wheel drive variants offer outputs of 190 hp and 286 hp, while the top-tier 4MOTION all-wheel-drive model produces 299 hp. Supported by a 77 kWh battery, the vehicle achieves an estimated range of up to 600 km on the WLTP cycle and features a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg. Inside, the updated cabin introduces physical steering wheel buttons and an optional dedicated co-driver display.
For North American fleet managers and automotive retail networks, where the model is slated to arrive in 2027, the redesign addresses key operational requirements. Shifting from a crossover silhouette to a traditional SUV design enhances interior utility and cargo space, providing commercial operators with a versatile electric option for regional service fleets.
