Aurora Innovation Hits Major Milestone in Autonomous Trucking Expansion

Aurora Innovation, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUR), the leader in self-driving trucks, announced a major expansion of its commercial operations, reaching several key milestones: surpassing 20,000 driverless miles by the end of June, expanding its driverless fleet to three trucks, launching nighttime driverless operations, and opening a new terminal in Phoenix.

“Efficiency, uptime, and reliability matter to our customers, and Aurora is proving we can deliver,” said Chris Urmson, co-founder and CEO. “Just three months after launch, we’re running day and night operations and expanding into Phoenix. Our rapid momentum is unlocking the full potential of autonomous trucking to transform the trillion-dollar freight industry.”

24/7 Operations Begin

Aurora has extended driverless operations on the Dallas-to-Houston route to include night driving — more than doubling truck utilization and significantly shortening delivery times. This capability brings Aurora closer to long-term profitability in the autonomous freight market.

Aurora’s technology also enhances road safety. Nighttime truck crashes account for 37% of all fatal incidents involving large trucks, often due to fatigue and poor visibility. The Aurora Driver, powered by the company’s proprietary FirstLight Lidar, detects obstacles over 450 meters away — up to 11 seconds sooner than a human driver — without ever getting tired.

New Terminal in Phoenix

Aurora’s new Phoenix terminal, opened in June, is part of a lean infrastructure model designed to integrate directly with customer delivery points. The Fort Worth–Phoenix route, which takes over 15 hours to drive, is nearly half the length of the major Atlanta–Los Angeles freight corridor. Aurora is currently hauling goods autonomously on this route for partners Hirschbach and Werner.

To demonstrate its commitment to transparency, the company has launched Aurora Driver Live, a public livestream showcasing real-time self-driving truck operations — a first-of-its-kind glimpse into the future of freight.

Q2 2025 Financial Results

Aurora also released its Q2 2025 financial results, confirming sufficient liquidity to fund operations through Q2 2027. The shareholder letter and financial reports are available at ir.aurora.tech. A webcast of the business review call is available on the site and will remain accessible for 30 days.
