West Coast ZEV Corridor to Link B.C. and Mexico
Harmonizing charging technology across borders, a new West Coast infrastructure corridor will allow electric heavy-duty trucks to operate seamlessly from Vancouver to Mexico.
Government and industry leadership across British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California, and Baja California have announced the development of the British Columbia to Baja California (BC2BC) Zero-Emission Vehicle Corridor. Spanning the Interstate 5 freight route, the initial buildout will deploy 20 high-power electric vehicle charging stations and three hydrogen refueling sites along a corridor supporting nearly 10,000 daily commercial trucks.
For fleet operators, motor carriers, and cross-border logistics companies, the initiative addresses technical interoperability and charging availability across international borders. By aligning infrastructure standards, the corridor allows commercial transportation managers to scale zero-tailpipe-emission fleet deployments while maintaining route reliability and vehicle uptime from Canadian distribution hubs down to Mexican ports.
Supported by vehicle manufacturers including Volvo Group North America, Tesla, and ZM Trucks, the project functions as part of the broader Global Green Road Corridor initiative. Project coordinators CalSTA, CALSTART, and the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies will lead upcoming multi-jurisdictional technical sessions to establish standardized charging protocols for regional and long-haul commercial transport.
