Aeva and Bendix Partner to Advance Safety Tech for Heavy-Duty Trucks

Aeva, a leading developer of next-generation sensing and perception systems, has announced a new partnership with Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, North America’s top provider of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for commercial trucks. The collaboration will focus on enhancing active safety and collision mitigation technologies for Class 8 trucks and beyond.

The North American commercial truck ADAS market is one of the largest opportunities for innovation in road safety, with roughly 300,000 new Class 8 trucks sold each year. Bendix, known for its industry-leading Bendix® Fusion™ ADAS platform, already supplies its technology to most major Class 8 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

The goal of the partnership is to integrate Aeva’s cutting-edge 4D LiDAR technology and perception software into Bendix’s future safety systems. The joint effort is aimed at delivering more advanced SAE Level 2+ (L2+) safety features, including pedestrian automatic emergency braking (PAEB) and improved nighttime collision mitigation—two critical situations where current radar and camera systems often fall short.

“This partnership with Bendix brings our 4D LiDAR to one of the most important commercial vehicle markets in North America,” said Soroush Salehian, Aeva’s Co-founder and CEO. “By combining our technologies, we can help create safer, more reliable systems that address today’s toughest road safety challenges.”

Bendix, a subsidiary of Germany-based Knorr-Bremse, already supplies safety technology to OEMs such as Paccar, Navistar, and Volvo Group. This collaboration with Aeva reflects both companies' commitment to advancing road safety for drivers, fleets, and manufacturers.

“Our work with Aeva marks a new era for commercial truck safety,” said Mike Tober, Chief Technology Officer at Bendix. “We believe Aeva’s 4D LiDAR offers the range, resolution, and velocity data needed to unlock the next level of protection—especially in complex conditions like pedestrian detection and low-light environments.”

Bendix emphasized that while advanced technologies improve safety, they are no substitute for trained and attentive drivers. The responsibility for safe vehicle operation ultimately rests with the driver, who must be familiar with the system's capabilities and limitations through proper training.
