Chinese Tire Imports: CBSA Launches Anti-Dumping Investigation

The launch of a federal proceeding on truck and bus tires could quickly alter supply costs for fleets and repair shops across the country.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has officially opened an investigation into the alleged dumping and subsidizing of new and retreaded truck and bus tires from China. This action follows a joint complaint by the Canadian Retread Manufacturers Association (CRMA) and Michelin Canada, which together represent the majority of domestic production in this $1.2 billion annual market.

The complainants argue that the influx of unfairly priced Chinese products is driving down retail prices, eroding market share, and reducing profitability for local businesses. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) will issue a preliminary injury decision by October 30, 2026, while the CBSA will decide by November 30, 2026, on the potential imposition of anti-dumping and countervailing duties.
