Trelleborg Rotary Seal Boosts Inflation System Efficiency and Uptime
Cutting fuel usage by up to 15 percent and extending service life past 10,000 hours optimizes operational costs for commercial off-highway fleets.
Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has introduced the Turcon SG rotary seal, a component engineered to improve the performance of central tire inflation systems (CTIS) on heavy agricultural, forestry, mining, and construction machinery. The seal maintains system airtightness during inflation cycles while reducing rotary friction across driven and trailer axles.
For commercial fleet managers and heavy equipment operators, integrating automated tire pressure adjustments delivers up to 15% fuel savings by optimizing traction across changing surface conditions. The pressure-regulating functionality lowers CO2 emissions, mitigates soil compaction, and reduces tire tread wear during transitions between unpaved job sites and paved roadways.
The component incorporates a pressure-activated polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sealing lip that remains in a low-friction state for 90% to 95% of its operating cycle. According to company metrics, this design extends component operational life beyond 10,000 hours, allowing maintenance directors to decrease unscheduled equipment downtime and simplify routine service schedules.
