Transportation Electrification is Gaining Momentum

The return of purchase incentives for zero-emission vehicles and investments in the installation of fast-charging stations across Canada are giving transportation electrification a new boost.

During the Truck World show in Toronto, Daniel Breton, president and CEO of Electric Mobility Canada, concretely illustrated the decoupling of Canadian and American environmental policies.

"Since 2025, President Trump has been sowing chaos," explains Breton. "Now, we see that Canada is not going to blindly follow our neighbors' policies. The return of subsidies and the deployment of a public charging station program in Canada are putting us back into a positive dynamic".

Fleet&Mobility also asked Breton what he thought about the arrival of Chinese electric vehicles in our market, even at low volumes.

"Their arrival is not anecdotal," the expert asserts. "Chinese cars scare the Americans. Regarding the potential impact on our production, it must be understood that the volume of cars manufactured in Canada over the last decades has melted away like snow in the sun". It remains to be seen whether our government's interest in allowing more electric cars from the Middle Kingdom will be part of free trade negotiations with our southern neighbors when the time comes. The concept of high-quality electric cars at a modest price will undoubtedly transform the affordability of electric mobility for Canadian drivers.

Heavy-duty transport too
In a completely different register, but on the same theme, the team from fast-charging solution provider Chargepoly had good news regarding their operations. As a reminder, this company, which had a booth at Truck World, provides freight transport companies and municipalities with charging infrastructure for heavy-duty mobility.

"Incentives and investments in transportation electrification are good news," confirms Sylvain Cabanetos, business development director at Chargepoly. "However, our customers are committed to the electric shift and have stayed the course, regardless of the incentives. Whether for heavy-duty transport—notably with the Relais Petit project in Sainte-Hélène-de-Bagot—logistics operations, school or municipal transport, not only are projects being realized, but they are gaining scale".

In short, new customers are being added to the list of those already committed, who do not hesitate to contact Chargepoly to develop new deployments.
