Financial Assistance and Subsidies: Programs to Facilitate Fleet Electrification

Electrifying your fleet involves purchasing electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure needed to operate them.

Various subsidies and financial assistance programs are available to help you make the transition to electric vehicles and minimize expenses. Here's a quick overview:

Provincial programs

In Quebec, many incentives are designed to encourage companies to initiate or continue their fleet electrification process.

Transportez vert (Green Transportation)

Aimed at on-road vehicle fleet operators who wish to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, the Transportez vert Program offers financial support for

  • Energy management coaching

  • Eco-driving training

  • Purchase and installation of DC fast charging stations

Roulez vert (Drive Green)

The Roulez vert Program also provides benefits for fleet managers, offering financial assistance for the purchase of new and used vehicles, as well as for the acquisition and installation of workplace charging stations.

Please note that the amounts granted for purchasing electric vehicles will gradually decrease starting January 1, 2025. The program ends on December 31, 2026.

Fonds Écoleader

The Fonds Écoleader offers a grant of up to $40,000 to companies wishing to implement environmentally responsible solutions. Initiatives funded by the Fonds Écoleader include electrical infrastructure audits for installing charging stations, as well as studies and action plans for switching to less polluting energy sources, such as electricity.

Écocamionnage (Ecotrucking)

The Écocamionnage Program is aimed at the service vehicle and on-road freight sectors. It offers financial support for purchasing technologies or vehicles that improve energy efficiency or reduce carbon emissions. The subsidy for heavy-duty vehicles can reach up to $175,000, with an additional bonus for vehicles manufactured in Quebec.

Programme d’électrification du transport scolaire (School Transportation Electrification Program)

Various electrification incentives are available to companies under contract with a school service centre or private educational institution. This program provides financial assistance for the purchase of electric school buses and the purchase and installation of charging infrastructure.

Federal Programs

Fleet managers can achieve their electrification goals by combining the advantages of both a Quebec and a Canadian program. Here are the main ones:

Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero- Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV)

Commercial and industrial organizations can receive financial assistance to purchase or lease medium- or heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles. Financial assistance under the iMHZEV program can reach up to $200,000 per company.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP)

The ZEVIP provides funding for the deployment of charging stations in Canada, particularly at workplaces and for vehicle fleets. The program's contribution is limited to 50% of the total project costs, up to a maximum of $5 million.

Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV)

Applied at the point of sale by the dealership, this program provides up to $5,000 for the purchase or lease (minimum 12 months) of an electric vehicle. Canadian companies that manage fleets can receive up to 10 incentives.

Zero-Emission Bus Initiative

The Canada Infrastructure Bank provides financing to bus owners through direct loans to help with the expenses of acquiring these vehicles. Loans are repaid using the savings generated by the lower operational costs.

Now that you’ve learned about these incentives, it's time to take action! Several companies, such as Cleo, can assist you in maximizing your returns and applying for subsidies* for your fleet electrification project.
