Cummins: New Rollout Schedule for the HELM Series

Following a review of proposed regulatory updates published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Cummins Inc. has updated its Model Year 2027 North American on-highway product launch strategy. The powertrain manufacturer intends to leverage proposed implementation flexibilities to execute a measured transition toward its fuel-agnostic HELM engine architecture.

“Our long-term product strategy has not changed,” said Jennifer Rumsey, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Cummins Inc. “This is about improving the transition, not changing the destination. A phased production ramp will allow us to support customers while building confidence in our new products through real-world operation and maintaining our focus on quality.”

Under the revised transition schedule, limited production of the Model Year 2027 X15 engine will commence in January 2027, with full production capacity anticipated by the fourth quarter of 2027, subject to OEM alignment. Current-generation X15 engines will remain commercially available during the ramp period. Similarly, limited manufacturing of the 2027 X10 engine will start in January 2027, reaching full production in the third quarter, while current X12 and L9 engine platforms remain in production for vocational truck and transit bus applications.

Cummins also reaffirmed that its next-generation B platform remains scheduled for a January 2028 market launch, supported by continued production of the current B6.7 engine through 2027. The phased rollout mitigates potential supply chain disruptions and provides extended operational flexibility ahead of revised emissions standards.
