Mack Debuts All-New Anthem Regional-Haul Tractor

One of the unanswered questions following the launch of the all-new Mack Pioneer in April centered on the fate of the popular Anthem Class 8 tractor.

At the time, Mack officials hinted that additional model launches later in the year would give greater clarity to the OEM’s evolving stable of Class 8 trucks.

On June 24, that clarity arrived with the launch of the all-new Mack Anthem.

The new truck is a completely redesigned model built for regional-haul applications.

The new Anthem builds on the Pioneer’s new design and technology suite – both inside and outside the truck. Which means the new is Anthem engineered to deliver enhanced maneuverability for regional-haul fleets, improved fuel efficiency and industry-leading driver comfort, Mack officials said, during an online press conference showcasing the model.

A Winning Combination

From a technical perspective, the main difference between the two new models is the bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) lengths, said Blake Routh, senior highway product manager, Mack Trucks.

The Anthem’s BBC comes in at 113-inches. On the Pioneer, the BBC is 125-inches.

Additionally, the Pioneer is offered with a 76-inch sleeper. The Anthem tops out at 64-inches.

“Both trucks do a lot of things well,” Routh noted. “And there is some overlap in their applications. But I would characterize things by saying if you’re a fleet that wants to prioritize fuel efficiency, you're probably going to lean more towards the Pioneer. Because it’s going to give you up to an 11% increase in fuel economy compared to today’s Anthem. And if you want to prioritize maneuverability, you're probably going to go more towards the Anthem.”

“Until recently, we just offered the Anthem,” added Jonathan Randall, president, Mack Trucks. “And it was offered mostly for highway applications. Now we have a winning combination on our hands. Both trucks look great. It’s hard to pick a favorite. But what that gives our customers now are more choices in how they can spec their trucks in a way that maximizes their needs, preferences and priorities.”

Mack Renews its Pioneering Spirit

Building on Mack’s legacy of innovation, the Anthem incorporates many of the same cutting-edge technologies and design principles that we’ve developed for our new Pioneer long-haul model, bringing advanced innovations to today’s regional-haul market.”

Enhanced Maneuverability for Regional Applications

Due to its shorter BBC, the new Anthem is ideal for navigating tight spaces and urban environments, Routh said.

A redesigned hood dramatically improves forward visibility, allowing drivers to see approximately 12 feet closer to the front bumper compared with previous designs, significantly reducing the risk of front-corner collisions.

The new Anthem delivers up to 10% improvement in fuel efficiency compared with the previous model, said Fernando Couceiro, vice president of highway trucks at Mack Trucks. This, he noted, is a significant advantage for fleets looking to reduce operating costs that can translate to approximately $5,000 in annual fuel savings per truck.

“This is not a facelift or a refresh,” Couceiro added. “This is a brand-new truck from the ground up. We’ve reimagined what a regional haul truck can be, focusing on the features that directly impact our customers’ bottom line.”

The Anthem, offered in day cab, 44-inch sleeper and 64-inch sleeper configurations, features the same interior cab space as the Pioneer. This arrangement offers drivers a premium work environment designed to reduce fatigue and improve satisfaction, according to Mack designers.

The cab interior has also been completely redesigned. It is now nine inches wider than the previous model and features new wide-base seats with optional ventilation and heating and massage functions.

Anthem’s stand-up sleeper options provide enough headroom for drivers to stand upright.

Premium quality mattresses and blackout curtains enable improved rest.

Safety and Connectivity

The Anthem also has advanced safety features, according to Vince Lokers, specialist chief designer at Mack Trucks. These include an optional digital mirror system that eliminates traditional blind spots, a standard front airbag, and an Integrated Curtain Airbag (ICA) system.

The ICA system is mounted in the overhead compartment above the driver’s left shoulder and deploys in rollover events to protect the driver from impact with side glass.

Additional integrated driver assistance systems have demonstrated a 43% reduction in near-miss incidents during controlled testing.

“From an interior perspective, the new Anthem and the Pioneer share the same dimensions, features and finishes, so our customers can enjoy the same outstanding comfort, no matter which model they choose,” Lokers explained. “The only difference is that the Anthem won’t offer the big sleeper configuration available with the Pioneer.”

The new Anthem features Mack Connect. This telematics system is the OEM’s most advanced telematics platform, providing fleet managers unprecedented visibility into operations.

The MyMack driver app allows drivers to pre-heat or cool their cab, check fluid levels, and monitor tire pressures from their phones. Over-the-air programming enables overnight software updates without service appointments, while the predictive maintenance system has been shown to reduce unplanned stops by 20%.

Integration with Mack’s GuardDog Connect automatically transmits service data to dealers, resulting in a 37% reduction in overall downtime compared with previous-generation trucks.

Target Industries and Applications

According to Mack, the new Anthem is ideal for weight-conscious customers and industries including:

  • Bulk haulers (fuel, chemicals, food grade products)
  • Dry bulk operations
  • Food and beverage distribution
  • General freight operations
  • Less-than-truckload (LTL) services

“The Anthem is lightweight, which contributes to its fuel efficiency and makes it particularly well-suited for weight-sensitive applications,” Couceiro noted.

The new Mack Anthem will be available for order starting in August 2025, with production beginning in January 2026.

Mack dealers nationwide will have demonstration models available for customer evaluation.
