Best Fuel-Efficient Vehicles for 2025

For the second year in a row, the award for the most fuel-efficient internal combustion engine vehicle goes to Kia for its Niro model, with a fuel consumption of 4.8 L/100 km.

Natural Resources Canada's 2025 Fuel Consumption Guide, initially released in early February and covering about 900 vehicles, reveals this key finding.

Consuming less than 5 L/100 km, the Kia Niro uses half the fuel of the typical non-electrified vehicle, as the average among all 590 conventional models (including ten with diesel engines) stands at 10.7 L/100 km.

Interestingly, while the selection of hybrid and electric vehicles has grown to exceed 300 models and versions (up 25 from 2024), internal combustion engines haven't significantly improved their efficiency.

Below, we present the 2025 models in nine categories whose versions have the best average city/highway consumption rating, validated by Natural Resources Canada.

The 2025 Fuel Consumption Guide from Natural Resources Canada and its various versions are available for download.
